Polly Panic Information
Polly Panic by Jenette Mackie is based on a foundation of manic-depressive percussion and an electric, often-distorted cello. Mackie's forceful, honest, charismatic tones are reminiscent of Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf, as well as PJ Harvey and Tori Amos. Despite its rough exterior, Polly Panic's music is not without hope or salvation, as it frequently explores themes of helplessness, control, fear, and abuse without dismissing them. The result is a stunning sound in its beauty and depth, as well as unique and enduring in its impact.
Jenette received her classical training in New York's Crane School of Music but dropped out to work with a private tutor in Rochester. She quickly got to work on her plan to provide a sinister edge to the classical cello. In the autumn of 2005, Jenette completed a three-song demo under her name, frequently played on WBER, Rochester's most prominent independent radio station. Mackie has completed the pre-production for her upcoming feature-length film Painkiller as of May 2006, and she has relocated from the bleak landscape of western New York to the pleasant city of Portland, Oregon.
Polly Panic encourages its audience to leave their usual routine and explore the parts of their mind they usually suppress. The music confronts feelings we've had in the past and exposes all that's hidden and mysterious, putting terror and dread on trial.
