Pinkshift Information
Pinkshift is an American rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Myron Houngbedji, Paul Vallejo, and Ashrita Kumar. Kumar and Vallejo first crossed paths in 2018 at a Johns Hopkins University function. Under the moniker Sugar Crisis, the duo has released several recordings, the first of which, "Mars," was released in 2019. They were hoping to form a band and, as such, were on the hunt for a percussionist. They did this by hanging out outside the school drum room and recruiting drummer Houngbedji.
After deciding to rebrand themselves, the band began playing at Johns Hopkins University-related activities as Pinkshift. Pinkshift's first song, "On Thin Ice," came out on March 13, 2020. However, the band's rise to fame began with their next single, "I'm gonna tell my therapist on You," released on July 31, 2020. The song quickly went viral on Reddit, and many punk musicians, including Chris No. 2 from Anti-Flag, supported the band.
The band's debut extended play, Saccharine, was released on April 2, 2021, to rave acclaim. Due to these reviews, the band members decided to forego furthering their education to focus on a future in music. The band revealed Weinroth's departure from the lineup on Twitter on December 31, 2021, citing cultural and musical differences as the reason.
