Phil Vassar Information
Phillip George Vassar Jr. (May 28, 1962) is an American country music artist born in Lynchburg, Virginia. Vassar went to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music. He made his debut on the country music scene in the late 1990s. Throughout his career, Vassar has co-written several hit singles for many notable country artists such as Alan Jackson (“Right on the Money”), Collin Raye (“Little Red Rodeo”), Jo Dee Messina (“Bye, Bye,” “I’m Alright”), and Tim McGraw (“My Next Thirty Years,” “For a Little While”).
In late 1999, he landed his first publishing deal with the Arista Nashville record label. The same year, Vassar released his debut single entitled “Carlene.” By 2000, this single had reached number five on the Billboard country charts. The single featured backing vocals from Collin Raye. He further produced three singles, including “That’s When I Love You,” “Six-Pack Summer,” and “Rose Bouquet.”
In 2000, Phil Vassar released his self-titled debut album. In 2002, his second album, American Child, was released. The album peaked at number four on the Top Country Albums charts. He released his third album entitled “Shaken Not Stirred” in 2004. The album produced another number one song for Vassar as a vocalist, entitled “In a Real Love.” Other albums released by him include Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (2006), Prayer of a Common Man (2008), and Traveling Circus (2009).
