Pharoahe Monch Information
Troy Donald Jamerson, a.k.a Pharoahe Monch (October 31, 1972), is an American rapper. As half of the rap duo Organized Konfusion alongside partner Prince Poetry, Monch has released three albums: Organized Konfusion, Stress: The Extinction Agenda, and The Equinox. The two worked together to produce most of these albums. All of the albums were well-received by critics but only sold moderately. As a result, the group went their separate ways after finishing their 1997 album, The Equinox.
Since then, Prince Poetry has shot down rumors of a new Organized Konfusion album or tour. The independent record company Rawkus Records was the next stop for Pharoahe Monch. Internal Affairs, Monch's much-anticipated debut, was published in 1999 after he had appeared as a guest artist on several albums, including the best-selling Rawkus collection Soundbombing II. As the album's lead single, "Simon Says," was a huge success, reaching as high as #97 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Despite the song's popularity, it was the subject of a lawsuit against the artist Monch for using a sample without permission from Akira Ifukube's Gojira Tai Mosura, the theme song for the 1992 film Godzilla vs. Mothra. His album's release was halted as a result. They released their debut single, "Palindrome," in September 2019 under the moniker th1rt3en, which Pharoahe co-founded with guitarist Marcus Machado and drummer Daru Jones. On the eve of its 20th anniversary, the film Internal Affairs was made available on streaming services for the first time on October 19, 2019.
