Otis Gibbs Information
Otis Gibbs (February 1966) is an American podcaster and alt-country singer and songwriter who has independently released several albums since 2002. Born and raised in Wanamaker, Indiana, the neighborhood on the outskirts of Indianapolis, he was introduced to music early. One of his aunt’s friends, who was supposed to be babysitting him, would take Gibbs to the nearby saloon where she sang while he played the piano.
A unique element of Gibbs’ songs is that they feature stories about everyday life. He has been compared to Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, Tom T.Hall, and Woody Guthrie. He has even been described as a “storyteller’s storyteller.” One of the Gibbs’ songs entitled “The Peoples Day” was included in a list of “Top Five Songs with Something to Say” by Billy Bragg, published in the Wall Street Journal.
Gibbs has also recorded over 100 podcasts so far under the title “Thanks for Giving a Damn,” consisting of conversational interviews with different musicians. His podcasts have been featured on iTunes’ “What’s Hot” and “New And Noteworthy” lists.
As a musician, Gibbs has worked with a few record labels such as Wanamaker Records, Benchmark Records, and Flat Earth Records. Some of Gibbs’ notable discography released throughout his career include 49th and Melancholy (2002), Once I Dreamed of Christmas (2003), One Day Our Whispers (2004), Grandpa Walked a Picketline (2008), Joe Hill’s Ashes, Harder Than Hammered Hell (2012), Souvenirs of a Misspent Youth (2014), and Mount Renraw (2016).
