Omar Sosa Information
Omar Sosa (April 10, 1965) is a Cubic jazz pianist. Sosa is a percussionist from Cuba who attended Escuela Nacional de Musica and Instituto Superior de Arte in his hometown of Camagüey. The band he formed, Tributo, released records and went on tour in the 1980s. He collaborated with Latin jazz ensembles and the Cuban singer Xiomara Laugart. Since the 1990s, he has lived in Quito, Ecuador; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; the San Francisco Bay Area in California; and most recently, Barcelona.
Sosa's initial self-titled albums appeared during his time in California. As of 2020, three of his albums could be considered for the Latin Jazz category of the Grammy Awards. Ceremony by Sosa and the NDR Bigband[de] (North German Radio Bigband) was named the best jazz album of 2010 by the Independent Music Awards (IMAs) in January 2011. Among the many other musicians he has worked with are Paolo Fresu, Seckou Keita, Adam Rudolph, and many more. Most of Sosa's music is available through his Otá label.
