Omar S Information
In 2003, Detroit's Omar-S (real name: Alex Omar Smith; aliases: DJ Snotburger, DJ Snotinburg) emerged as an underground techno/house maverick with the release of his firmly funky productions, created with analog gear, on his FXHE label. Although he is only 12 years old, "Even though his records were initially only pressed in small quantities with handwritten labels (and with run-out etchings like "Techno music is my heritage— techno is not dead DAMN IT!" and "Thanks to Rick Wilhite— I know I get on your nerves!"), they eventually made it to specialty shops in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Even though he gained a cult following and was frequently mentioned in the same breath as fellow Detroit natives Moodymann and Theo Parrish, he didn't break out of his low-key, independent style until 2009. Parrish's "Blown Valvetrane" LP came out on the Sound Signature label, "and not long afterward; Smith contributed mix 45 to London venue Fabric's self-titled mix series. Although Smith is best known for his vinyl releases, he has also issued full-length Disc titles, such as 2004's Collaborating (billed as Oasis, co-produced by Smith and the possibly nonexistent Shadow Ray) and 2005's Ask the Lonely.
Both were released on FXHE in 2009. The album It Can Be Done, But Only I Can Do It, which featured the song "Here's Your Trance Now Dance!! ", came out in 2011. Omar-2013 S's standalone LP, Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself, followed his 2012 single with OB Ignitt, Wayne County Hill Cop's, Pt.
