Late July to early August is when Columbus, Ohio, hosts the Ohio State Fair, one of the major state fairs in the United States. A 2011 analysis by Saperstein & Associates put the State Fair's contribution to the state's economy at $68.4 million. In 2015, the Fair saw a record-breaking 982,305 visitors throughout its 12 days of operation.
The Ohio State Fair has been held in various locations across the state since 1850, initially lasting only three days before expanding to a 17-day event (now lasting 12 days). Concerts, sporting events, exhibitions, a horse show, rides, and food stands are all part of the extensive schedule during the Fair. Typically, late February or early March is when the concert series lineup is revealed. The Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds have hosted the Fair since 1886.
Security guards, the Columbus Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are all examples of agencies that conduct patrols.
