Norman Brown (December 18, 1970) is an American smooth jazz guitarist and a singer from Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Brown was drawn to his brother’s acoustic guitar when he was eight years old. His early inspirations came from Jimi Hendrix and the Isley Brothers. Brown joined the staff of his university after graduating in 1984 and worked as an instructor until 1998. His music is defined as jazz-rock, smooth jazz, and fusion.
Norman Brown released his debut album entitled Just Between Us in 1992, which was produced by Norman Connors and was a major success. In 1994, he released his second album, After the Storm. Some of his other successful initial albums include Better Days Ahead 1996, Celebration 1999, and Just Chillin’ 2002.
In 1999, Norman Brown signed a contract with Warner Bros., and he founded the band BWB in 2002, with saxophonist Kirk Whalum and trumpeter Rick Braun. The group released its first album entitled Groovin’. Human Nature: The Songs of Michael Jackson was another album by the group released in 2013, while BWB was released in 2016.
Some of the other notable solo albums by Brown are West Coast Coolin’ 2004, Stay with Me 2007, Sending My Love 2010, 24/7 2012, Let It Go 2017, and Highest Act of Love 2018. In 2007, he released a number 1 smooth jazz radio hit, “Let’s Take a Ride.”
