Nickel Creek Information
Nickel Creek is an American bluegrass band. The current lineup consists of Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins. Chris Thile's dad, Scott Thile, played string bass at Nickel Creek's debut show in 1989 at That Pizza Place in Carlsbad, California. Even at twelve, Sean was already the oldest of the Watkins children. Chris Thile started on guitar and Sean Watkins on mandolin when Nickel Creek first formed, but they eventually decided to switch.
The band's first live album, Live From The Fox Theater, was recorded on May 19, 2014, at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA, and was set for release on October 2, 2020. Nickel Creek launched their Livecreek concert series on February 9, 2021, with the first two shows scheduled for February 21 and 28. They kept dropping new streams until early 2021. Nickel Creek, who had performed on and off from 2014 through 2019, started working on new material in early 2021.
On January 24, 2023, Nickel Creek revealed that their upcoming album would be named Celebrants and released on March 24 of that year. "Strangers" was released as the album's lead single on the day it was revealed. The band then revealed they would begin their tour on February 7, 2023. They performed at the Towersey Festival on August 27, 2023.
