Nicholas Angelich Information
Nicholas Angelich, born in 1970, is an American pianist from Cincinnati, Ohio. At the age of five, he began learning piano along with his mother. Nicholas gave his first concert at the age of seven in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21, K. 467` beside a chamber orchestra. He made his entry to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris at the age of 13. He has studied under teachers like Yvonne Loriod, Michel Beroff, Aldo Ciccolini, and Marie-Françoise Bucquet.
Nicholas Angelich won second place in the Casadesus International Piano Competition in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1989. He also won first place in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 1994. In 2002, Nicholas earned the International Klavierfestival Ruhr and the Young Talent Award. He is popular for performing with many major French orchestras under the conductors David Robertson and Myung-Whun Chung.
In May 2003, Nicholas Angelich made his debut with the New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur. The next year, he toured Japan with Masur and the Orchestre National de France. His recording of Brahms trios received a Schallplatten Prize. He recorded these with Renaud Capuçon and Gautier Capuçon for Erato Records. During the 2009-10 tour, by Nicholas Angelich, he gave recitals in Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), Milan Conservatory, The Hague, Teatro della Pergola (Florence), and Theatre du Chatelet (Paris). He is stated to be one of the great pianists of our time and, in October 2009, was featured on the cover issue of International Piano.
Nicholas Angelich also performed Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand at the 2010–2011 season opening of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, which was held in Dundee's Caird Hall. He also performed at Edinburgh's Usher Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
