Neil Sedaka Information
Neil Sedaka (March 13, 1939) is an American pianist, composer, record producer, and pop singer. He is from Brooklyn, New York. His music style is described as pop and brill building. He is the first cousin of the singer Eydie Gormé. Sedaka demonstrated musical aptitude in his second-grade choral class. His teacher sent a note at home suggesting for him to take piano lessons, and his mother immediately worked upon this.
Sedaka auditioned successfully for a piano scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music, Preparatory Division for Children. He used to attend that on Saturdays. Sedaka graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and joined a band named the Linc-Tones, which included his classmates. Some of the hit singles by this band are "While I Dream," "I Love My Baby," "Don't Go," and a few more. Sedaka left the group in 1957 and initiated his solo career.
The first three solo singles by Sedaka are "Laura Lee," "Oh, Delilah!", and "Ring-a-Rockin'." All failed to become hits. The first single for RCA Victor by Sedaka was "The Diary," which was inspired by Connie Francis. Some of the other singles by him include a novelty tune titled "I Go Ape," "Crying My Heart Out for You," "Stairway to Heaven," "You Mean Everything to Me," "Run, Samson, Run," "Next Door to an Angel," "Who's Sorry Now?", and the list goes on.
Some of his All-time No. 1 hits are "Oh! Carol" (Italy), 1960, "La Terza luna" (Italy), 1963, "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" (1975 version), and many others. Sedaka also featured in many films such as Playgirl Killer, The King of Queens (one episode, as himself), Saturday Night Live (one episode, as himself), The Toni Tennille Show (one episode, as himself), and many others. Laughter in the Rain: My Own Story. New York: Putnam, 1982, was an autobiography by him.
