Natalie MacMaster Information
Natalie MacMaster (June 13, 1972) is a Canadian fiddler who plays Cape Breton fiddle music. She is from Troy, Inverness County, Nova Scotia, and only deals in Cape Breton fiddle music genres. MacMaster is the daughter of the famous Minnie (née Beaton), MacMaster, and Alex. She also has a distant relationship with Jack White. MacMaster married fiddler Donnell Leahy, and the two moved to Lakefield, Ontario. They formed a duo in which their seven children are also occasionally included during the performances.
MacMaster started playing fiddle when she was only nine. In the same year, she debuted at a square dance in Glencoe Mills. Her first album entitled Four on the Floor was released when she was only 16. Her second album named Road to the Isle, was released in 1991. The second album was co-produced by popular John Morris Rankin (The Rankin Family). Both were first released on cassette, but they were re-released as A Compilation in 1998 by Rounder Records.
Some of the other notable albums by MacMaster include Fit as a Fiddle 1993, No Boundaries 1997, In My Hands 1999, My Roots Are Showing 2000, Live 2002, Natalie & Buddy MacMaster: Traditional Music from Cape Breton Island 2005, and A Celtic Family Christmas (with Donnell Leahy) 2016.
MacMaster has toured with famous names such as Faith Hill, Chieftains, Carlos Santana, and Alison Krauss. She also performed at the Celtic Connections in Scotland, Celtic Colours festival, which took place in Cape Breton, and MerleFest in the United States.
