Music of the Americas Information
The Music of the Americas is a concert series that America’s Society presents. The company has presented the concert series since 1965 to showcase a wide range of music and artists from the western hemisphere. The series was renamed the MetLife Foundation Music of the Americas in 2007. The music played in Music of the Americas ranges from popular, contemporary to folk. It is played with an effort to highlight the diversity of musical activities in the Americas.
The Music of the Americas has presented many internationally renowned artists since its inception, including Chango Spasiuk, Inti-Illimani, Nelson Freire, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, and Placido Domingo. It takes place at the headquarters of America’s Society on the east side of New York City. Salon Simon Bolivar is the primary venue in the building for the concert series.
America’s Society has a music program that produces a completion CD showcasing the past season’s artists. Some of the well-known artists included in the 2010 CD are Eddy Marcano, Inti-Illimani, and Larry Harlow. Since 2005, the Music of the Americas program has been progressing under the direction of Sebastian Zubieta.
