Mumiy Troll Information
Mumiy Troll is a rock band from Russia, which was formed on October 16, 1983, by songwriter and vocalist Ilya Lagutenko. Mumiy Troll, as a band name, is translated as “Ilya Lagutenko,” which is pun over “Moomin Troll” (a series of children’s book by Tove Jansson titled “Finnish”). This group was founded in Vladivostok. The current members included in Mumiy Troll are Ilya Lagutenko, Alexander Kholenko, Oleg Pungin, Pavel Vovk, and Artyom Kristin. It enjoys being the most famous musical act in Russia.
The debut album by Mumiy Troll, entitled “Novaya luna aprelya,” was recorded in 1985, which was released as a tape. “Delay Yu-Yu” was the second album by the band released in 1990. The very first official album released by the band in May 1997 was Morskaya (???????, Marine). The group has released nearly 13 albums in English and Russian. Their album Malibu Alibi (English) constituted of songs that were entirely created when the band was on its round-the-world trip sailing on a 19-century sailing ship (across Moscow, LA, Singapore, China, and South Africa).
Some of the notable discographies created by Mumiy Troll include Vladivostok (2012), SOS metros (2013), Paradise Ahead (US EP), Meeamury, #31E, Techno rut' aloe, and several more. The music video for Vladivostok (2000) was the first one to be broadcast by MTV Russia as a Russian music video.
The band was stated to be the first to support PSI organization AIDS fighting activities in Russia. Mumiy Troll is also highlighted for carrying out conservation activities in the Far-East taiga on wild-life.
The band has also won several major awards, some of which are The Best Rock Group 1997 (Russian Music Academy), The Best Musical Site 1999, The Best Video 1998- Delfiny and 1999- Nevesta? (Russian music magazine Fuzz prize), The Best Album 2005, Legend of MTV 2006 (MTV Russia Music Awards), and the list go on.
