Monobloco Information
Monobloco, a Brazilian street ensemble or bloco, performs professionally and during Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro. Monobloc is a relatively new bloco in Rio de Janeiro that has exploded in popularity among the city's youth due to its "fresh" sound, which combines samba with other rhythms like coco, ciranda, marching, vote, samba, modern R&B, and especially samba-rock and funk. Its yearly popularity rises and may be considered a symbol of the revival of Rio de Janeiro's Carnaval blocos.
The band's self-titled debut CD came out in 2002. A live CD and DVD called "Monobloco Ao Vivo" was recorded in October 2006 and published in 2007, marking their second successful release. Released in early 2010, "10" is their latest live CD. During the fall of 2009, 10 were reported at Fundição Progresso.
The first leg of The Monobloco Show's 2007–2008–2009 tour of the UK began in July of that year. On their tours across Portugal, Denmark, Australia, and New Zealand, they played at various locations and taught seminars to local bands, including Wellington Batucada and AKSamba. After that, in 2013, they dropped a new album called "Arrastao da Alegria" with guest appearances from celebrities like Ailton Assumpcao and Ivete Sangalo.
