Molly Hatchet, a Southern rock band that originated from Jacksonville, Florida, was founded in 1971 by the guitarist Dave Hlubek. Its music is defined as hard rock, southern rock, jam rock, and boogie rock. The current lineup of the Molly Hatchet consists of Bobby Ingram – lead, acoustic and slide guitars, backing vocals; John Galvin – keyboards, synthesizers, piano, programming, backing vocals; Shawn Beamer – drums, percussion; Tim Lindsey – bass, backing vocals; and Jimmy Elkins – lead vocals.
Molly Hatchet shared influences and inspiration to the most well-known act in the Southern rock genre, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Molly Hatchet was the first album by the band released in September 1978. The track "Dreams I'll Never See" earned AOR airplay. The first album was followed by Flirtin' with Disaster in September 1979, Beatin' the Odds, Take No Prisoners, No Guts...No Glory, and The Deed Is Done.
From 2014 through 2019, Molly Hatchet encountered several former Hatchet member's deaths. Bass guitarist Riff West died on November 19, 2014, Drummer Bruce Crump died on March 16, 2015, Bass guitarist Banner Thomas died on April 10, 2017, Dave Hlubek died of a heart attack on September 2, 2017, Jimmy Farrar died on October 29, 2018, and Singer Phil McCormack passed away on April 26, 2019.
Molly Hatchet also released a few live albums, including Molly Hatchet Live E/P/A Series, Double Trouble Live, Live at the Agora Ballroom Atlanta Georgia 1979, Locked and Loaded, Greatest Hits Live, and Flirtin' with Disaster Live. The band also perform radio shows such as Molly Hatchet Innerview (1978), Molly Hatchet Best of the Biscuit KBFH (1981), Molly Hatchet Captured Live (1984), Molly Hatchet: Marshall Tucker in Concert (1996), and many more.
