Mnozil Brass Information
Mnozil Brass is an Austrian brass septet known for playing jazz, classical, and other styles of music. The group was created in 1992, and in 1993, they performed for the first time. The members use traditional brass instruments and some unique yet unusual instruments such as bass trumpet and customized rotary valved trumpet. The current lineup consists of Thomas Gansch (trumpet), Robert Rother (trumpet), Roman Rindberger (trumpet) (since 2004), Leonhard Paul (trombone & bass trumpet), Gerhard Füßl (trombone, Zoltan Kiss (trombone) (since 2005), and Wilfried Brandstötter (tuba). All the band's founding members are graduates of Vienna College of Music.
The band members of Mnozil Brass met at the Mnozil pub while playing in Vienna's first inner-city district. Music by Mnozil Brass is presented especially with a typical Austrian style of humor. According to the experts, their style can be approximately characterized as "here and there" and "jet black" absurd. Fans also feel the existence of slapstick next to virtuosic brass. Mnozil Brass is often referred to as "The Monty Python of the musical world."
This unique septet cooperates with Bernd Jeschek, who is a freelance director. He also developed the stage programs "Ragazzi," "Smoke," and "Seven," along with the "Das Trojanische Boot" ("The Trojan Boat") known to be the "first operetta of the 21st century". Its world premiere took place during the German art festival RuhrTriennale in 2005. The band tours internationally and is highly appreciated by big artists, for example, Chuck Findley, Jeff Nelson, Barry Tuckwell, and Wycliffe Gordon.
