Mitchell Tenpenny Information
Mitchell Tenpenny (August 17, 1989) is an American country-pop singer and songwriter born in Nashville, Tennessee. He named Vince Gill, John Mayer, and Michael Jackson as some of his musical heroes from his childhood, who played country, rock, and R&B. He played football at Nashville's Lipscomb Academy. He subsequently enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University to play collegiate football, but he soon realized that becoming a band member would suit him better. He earned a degree in the music business.
Black Crow, Tenpenny's debut album, came out in 2015. Featured on the song "Canes Creek" was the bluegrass ensemble The SteelDrivers. The first single, "Black Crow," was the album's title track. He collaborated with Nick Fradiani and others in his early songwriting career, penning several hits, including Granger Smith's "If the Boot Fits," which peaked at number ten. After appearing in 2014's documentary The Voyage, he inked a publishing deal with Nashville's Sony ATV Music Publishing. Riser Records, which had just launched in 2016, signed him.
A self-titled EP with a new track, "Drunk Me," was released on February 23, 2018, by Tenpenny, who had joined forces with Riser House/Columbia Nashville in January of that year. On December 14, 2018, he dropped Telling All My Secrets, his second studio album and first full-length with a big label. After selling 20,000 A/E units in its first week, it peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Top Country Albums list and No. 53 on Billboard 200.
