Mingus Big Band Information
The Mingus Big Band is a 14-piece New York City-based ensemble specializing in Charles Mingus' compositions. Along with the Mingus Orchestra and the Mingus Dynasty, Sue Mingus manages it. In addition to its weekly Monday night engagement at Jazz Standard in New York City, the Mingus Big Band travels extensively, performing and giving clinics in America, Europe, and other parts of the world.
Mingus Big Band Live at Jazz Standard garnered six Grammy Award nominations and won one in 2011 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. Albums of the band include Nostalgia in Times Square (1993), Gunslinging Birds (1995), Live in Time (1996), Que Viva Mingus! (1997), Blues & Politics (1999), Tonight at Noon: Three of Four Shades of Love (2002), I Am Three (2005), Live in Tokyo at the Blue Note (2006), Mingus Big Band Live at Jazz Standard (2010), and Mingus Sings (2015).
