Mile High Nationals Information
The NHRA Mile High Nationals is declared one of the 24 events featured in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The event takes place in Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, Colorado. It has been NHRA sanctioned since 1968. The top four categories included in the show are Fuel Funny Car, Pro Mod, Top Fuel Dragster, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. While witnessing the NNRA Mile High Nationals, the spectators get the chance to experience the very first race of the three-week Western Swing by NHRA.
When it comes to NHRA, Bandimere Speedway is the highest race track at 5,800 feet. This high altitude is meant for creating a unique racing experience for drag racing. One of the most challenging and difficult weekends of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is driving in Denver. The high elevations have enough strength to affect engine tune-ups. In 1958, Bandimere Speedway was established, and in 1978, its first official NHRA points race was held. The track is known for featuring a unique Track Cooling System and has a complete concrete racing surface.
In 2019, the Mile High Nationals had four winners: Andrew Hines in the Pro Stock Motorcycle category, Tommy Johnson Jr. in the Funny Car category, Steve Torrence in the Top Fuel category, and Greg Anderson in the Pro Stock category. Some of the notable racers who have participated in this event are Billy Torrence, Doug Kalitta, Richie Crampton, Steve Torrence, Brittany Force, Leah Pruett, and Mike Salinas.
