Mike Campbell Information
Michael Wayne Campbell (February 1, 1950) is an American guitarist and singer born in Panama City, Florida. "You Got Lucky," "Here Comes My Girl," "Runnin' Down a Dream," and "Refugee." are just a few of the chart-topping singles that he and Tom Petty of the Heartbreakers co-wrote.
In addition to his work with The Heartbreakers, he has been a session guitarist and composer for many other artists. He created and performed on the singles "The Boys of Summer" and "The Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley and contributed to most of Stevie Nicks' solo albums. On their 2018–2019 world tour, Campbell and Neil Finn filled in for lead guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, who was injured. Since the tour came to a close in 2022, he has been active with his band, The Dirty Knobs and the group has published two albums.
Rolling Stone magazine listed Mike Campbell as the 79th best guitarist on November 11, 2011. He was a part of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Tom Petty and Campbell worked together for over half a century, recording and touring.
On September 25, 2017, he and the Heartbreakers played their final live show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Shockingly, Tom Petty passed away on October 2, almost one week later. Campbell declared his separation from Fleetwood Mac and subsequent forays into other endeavors in March 2022.
