Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale Information
The Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale (MOSC) was founded in 1962. The symphony was created as a charitable organization under the leadership of Dr. Lara Hoggard. He combined the then-modest individual orchestras of the two cities, Midland and Odessa, Texas.
The MOSC currently ensembles a symphony of 70+ professional musicians. The symphony is ranked as a metropolitan Orchestra by the League of American Orchestras. Today MOSC is one of the largest professional performing arts organizations in West Texas. Gary Lewis is the Music Director & Conductor of the symphony.
MOSC is known for enriching lives through music in the West Texas area and being a unique symphony compared to similar orchestras scattered throughout the US. It includes a symphony orchestra, a youth choir, three resident instrumental ensembles, and a chorale. Under Greg Pysh, the Chorale currently runs 70 talented and dedicated members who rehearse every week and perform three concerts every season.
The instruments used in the MOSC include Permian Basin String Quartet, Lone Star Brass, and West Texas Winds. The mission behind the MOSC is to enhance the quality of West Texas life with the help of music education and professional music performances.
