Michael Cleveland Information
Michael Cleveland (September 18, 1980) is an American bluegrass fiddle player. Cleveland was born in Henryville, Indiana. He had neither vision nor hearing as a baby and later lost most of his hearing in one ear to an infection. At four, he enrolled in a local Suzuki program and began studying the violin. His talent was recognized early on, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already performed on the Grand Ole Opry, A Prairie Home Companion, and before the United States Congress.
He then performed with artists such as Dale Ann Bradley and Rhonda Vincent after graduating from the Kentucky School for the Blind. As of right now, he may be found in Charlestown, Indiana. In 2003, his solo debut on Rounder Records, Fire Holder, was named Instrumental Album of the Decade by the International Rock Music Association; in 2005, Tom Adams and Michael Cleveland Live at the Ragged Edge won the same prize, which they shared with Ben Jameson. His album Let 'Er Go, Boys! from 2006 won him his third prize.
Bluegrass Sundays Winter Concert Series in Ontario, Canada, 2007 featured Cleveland and his band Flamekeeper. The concert occurred in July 2010 at the Sally Creek Music Festival in Thames Centre. Cleveland joined Béla Fleck's My Bluegrass Heart touring band in 2022.
