Melanie Adele Martinez (April 28, 1995) is an American singer and songwriter. Martinez emerged in popularity in 2012. It was after her performance on the third season of the American talent program The Voice. She was born in Astoria, Queens, and raised in Baldwin, New York.
Due to the program's success, she got signed to Atlantic Records, where she debuted with the song "Dollhouse" and later the EP of the same name (2014). Cry Baby, Martinez's debut studio album, was released in 2015 and has now been certified double-platinum by the RIAA.
Singles like "Pity Party," "Soap," and "Mrs. Potato Head" all became hits, contributing to the album's overall financial success. K-12 (2019) and Portals (2023) are two follow-up albums by Martinez, released on September 6, 2019 and March 31, 2023, respectively.
Martinez hinted at her third studio album, Portals, on February 18, 2023, after she had deleted all of her Instagram posts. Her first original entries into the Billboard Hot 100 can be found on the songs "Death" (#95) and "Void" (#61), both of which were released in support of the album on March 31, 2023.
In May of 2023, she set off on the Portals Tour. Martinez's "Void" video and accompanying song were nominated for a Video Music Award for Best Visual Effects. Taylor Swift finally defeated her in the final round, losing to Anti-Hero.
