Maya Jane Coles is an English music producer, DJ, and audio engineer. She was born in London, England. She is known as the former member of an electronic dub duo called, She Is Danger, along with Lena Cullen. Coles started making music as a teenager, where she learned to produce music using the Cubase software program; at the time, she was just 15. At the beginning of her career, Coles produced trip hop and hip hop. She released her first few records in 2008 and 2009 through Dogmatik Records. In 2010, Coles gained her breakthrough exposure.
Coles has already remixed several acts such as Gorillaz and Massive Attack and her duo called, She Is Danger. She was also featured in many magazines, such as Mixmag. Coles received an invitation from BBC Radio 1 to record an Essential Mix of her own. It was later nominated for Essential Mix of the Year 2011. She released her debut album, Comfort, on her label, I/AM/Me, and internationally through Kobalt Label Services in summer 2013. The album also featured guest appearances from Karin Park, Thomas Knights, Alpines, Nadine Shah, Miss Kittin, and Tricky.
Coles released her second album entitled, Take Flight in 2017. The title track from Coles’ 2010 EP, What They Say, was sampled in late 2014 in the Nicki Minaj song entitled “Truffle Butter.” It was a collaborative track with Lil Wayne and Drake from her album entitled, The Pinkprint.
