Matt the Electrician Information
Matt Sever is an American singer and songwriter born in San Francisco, California. He is professionally known by his stage name, Matt the Electrician. When Sever was fifteen years old, he started performing at coffee houses. In 1996, he hosted an open mic night at the now-defunct Flipnotics Coffee space, which propelled him into the Austin, Texas, music scene. Some have labeled Sever's music folk-pop or neo-folk, although it features a wide range of Americana and roots-based acoustic sounds.
Not only has Sever produced full-length studio albums, but he has also published 45 RPM vinyl recordings featuring two songs apiece. From 2015 to 2017, Sever released six double-sided recordings, one vinyl at a time. The supporting band for each album was different. Save for Paul Curreri, who now calls Charlottesville home, every member of the supporting band hails from Austin.
The Doubles, his 2017 album, features all twelve tracks recorded for this project. Many commercials, feature films, and TV and radio shows in the United States have included Sever's music. An excerpt from Baseball Song's "I Remember" was featured in the film Playing Mona Lisa. Eli Stone and Army Wives both featured the song "Valedictorian" from the album Long Way Home.
