Martin Ikin Information
He has studied jazz piano, led several jazz-funk bands, and is currently active as a bandleader, session musician, and piano teacher, in addition to his other musical pursuits (producing, DJing, and working as an in-house engineer at several recording facilities).
Martin started his own company, Soul Purpose Records, to release his music after spending over a decade releasing songs on various labels. Juliet Roberts, Elisabeth Troy, Angie Brown, Mary Pearce, and Bryan Chambers were just a few of the musicians that quickly signed on with Soul Purpose Records. They helped establish the label's image as a leader in high-caliber house music with a string of chart-topping singles.
After using the name "Mayhem" since the early 1990s, Martin changed his DJ and Production/Remix alias to "Soul Purpose" in 2005. For the first time, he's DJing and producing under his given name. Martin begins with the Monster release on Andre Crom's OFF Recordings label.
Many well-known artists have requested remixes by Martin, including Mariah Carey, Jamiroquai, Joey Negro, MAW, Grant Nelson, Hardsoul, Ron Carroll, and dozens more. Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Azymuth, Donny Hathaway, Jeff Lorber, Roy Ayers, iconic house gurus Mr. Fingers, Marshall Jefferson, Derek May, and Kevin Saunderson are among Martin's musical influences as a musician and producer.
