Martin Lancelot Barre is an English rock musician who is best known for his work as a lead guitarist in a progressive rock band called Jethro Tull. Born November 17, 1946, in Kings Heath, Birmingham, he later moved to London with a friend Chris Rodger. Barre had played saxophone in a band called “The Moonrakers” previously. Barre and Rodger auditioned for a group called “The Nobleman” as the band founder was looking for two saxophonists.
Aside from bands, Barre has worked on a lot of solo projects. He played the guitar given to him by his friend Mark Mancina on a track of 1994 entitled “A Trick of Memory.” He released his debut studio album entitled “This Was” on October 25, 1968, in the United Kingdom and on February 3, 1969, in the United States. The album was released on Island Records. He has been associated with different big-named record labels such as RandM, Fuel 2000, Chrysalis, Eagle, Roadrunner, EMI, Capitol, Island.
Martin Barre’s all-time hits that he released so far include Stand Up (August 1, 1969), Benefit (April 20, 1970), Aqualung (March 19, 1971), Thick as a Brick (March 3, 1972), A Passion Play (July 13, 1973), Minstrel in the Gallery (September 5, 1975), Songs from the Wood (February 4, 1977), and several others.
