Marco Claveria Information
In Santiago, Chile, Marco Claveria was born into a musical family. At the urging of his parents, Claveria began studying guitar at the age of 10. He first learned the fundamentals of Chilean folk music, then studied other forms, like the Cuecas, Tonadas, Resbaloza, and the Argentine Samba.
After settling into his new life in Edmonton, Alberta, he again picked up his musical interests. His family had moved to Canada from the United States in 1982. After spending a year in the Music Program at Grant McEwan University in 1989, he moved to Montreal to pursue musical diversity.
Following 1994's AFROCUBANISMO! To rekindle his love for the music he listened to as a child in his parents' Chilean home, Claveria decided in 1996 to travel to Cuba and study with renowned musicians like Carlitos Gonzales (Afrocuban All-Stars), Angel Rivero, and Alejandro Maximo Duany.
