Mandel Bruce Patinkin (November 30, 1952) is a well-known American actor and singer specializing in musical theater, television, and movies. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and is a highly acclaimed Broadway performer who has worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim.
Tony, Primetime Emmy, seven Drama Desk, three Golden Globe, and television Actors Guild Award nominations are just a few of the many honors bestowed upon Patinkin for his main performances on stage and television.
In 1975, Patinkin debuted onstage in a production of the comedic comedy Trelawny of the Wells at The Public Theatre's Shakespeare Festival, co-starring with Meryl Streep. For his 1979 performance as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita, he won a Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
Patinkin featured prominently in several television programs, including Chicago Hope (1994–2000), Criminal Minds (2005–2007), and Homeland (2011–2020), all of which were criminal dramas. He had a starring role on CBS's legal drama series The Good Fight in 2021. He provided Benjamin Franklin's voice for the PBS documentary series Benjamin Franklin, hosted by Ken Burns, the following year.
Liam Neeson voiced Alexander Wedderburn, while Paul Giamatti portrayed John Adams. Patinkin narrated the 2022 Paramount+ miniseries Indivisible: Healing Hate, which detailed the events leading up to the assault on the US Capitol on January 6.
