Madeleine Peyroux Information
Madeleine Peyroux (April 19, 1974) is an American jazz songwriter and singer from Athens, Georgia. She grew up in New York and California. In various interviews, she has called her parents "eccentric educators" and "eccentric educators" as they helped her pursue a career in music. During her young age, Peyroux learned to play her mother's ukulele, and she listened to her father's old records. At the age of 13, she moved to Paris with her mother when her parents divorced. After two years in Paris, Peyroux began singing with street musicians in the Latin Quarter and later joined a vintage jazz group called the Riverboat Shufflers. Her music is defined as jazz and pop.
Peyroux was discovered by a talent agent from Atlantic Records, with the help of whom, she released her debut album entitled Dreamland in 1996. She also recorded cover versions of the songs from the 1930s and '40s along with some seasoned musicians James Carter, Leon Parker, Vernon Reid, Cyrus Chestnut, and Marc Ribot.
Peyroux released an EP entitled Got You on My Mind with William Galison. Careless Love was her second full-length album that was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Some of her other notable albums are Half the Perfect World 2006, Bare Bones 2009, Standing on the Rooftop 2011, The Blue Room 2013, Keep Me in Your Heart for a While: Best of Madeleine Peyroux 2014, Secular Hymns 2016, and Anthem 2018.
Peyroux also performed a live session at Abbey Road Studios in England 2006, and the next year, she won the BBC Jazz Award for the Best International Jazz Artist.
