Madeline Mae “Maddie” Poppe (December 5, 1997) is an American musician and singer-songwriter from Clarksville, Iowa. Her music is defined as Indie pop and folk. Poppe was fond of singing for her family as a young girl and started performing during middle school. Poppe went to Iowa Central Community College and later attended Hawkeye Community College. She loved to perform with her father and his band at Pioneer Day. Poppe officially started to perform at the Butler County Fairgrounds in Allison, Iowa. In 2006, she began her actual career by releasing her first album entitled Songs from the Basement.
Poppe’s father told her about the American Idol auditions in summer 2017, to which she auditioned and sang “Rainbow Connection.” Helping launch her career, on May 21, 2018, she won American Idol. Before entering American Idol, she had auditioned for The Voice in 2016 for season 10, but, unfortunately, she was eliminated. Some of the songs she performed on the shows are “I Told You So,” “If It Makes You Happy,” “Nothing Compares 2 U,” “Walk Like an Egyptian,” and “God Only Knows.”
Poppe was the winner of the People’s Choice Awards (Competition Contestant of 2018) and Talent Recap Fan Choice Awards (Favorite Reality TV Competition Contestant of 2018). Both nominations were for her work on American Idol. Two of her hit singles are “Keep On Movin’ On” and “Going, Going, Gone.”
