Macy Gray Information
Macy Gray (September 6, 1967) is an American soul and R&B singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, and actress. She was born in Canton, Ohio. She began taking piano lessons while she was seven years old. Her original name is Natalie Mclntyre while professionally known as Macy Gray (she used this name in her stories). In 1985, Gray graduated from Canton South High School and attended scriptwriting at the University of Southern California. She started writing songs for her friend while she was studying at college.
Gray worked as a cashier in Beverly Hills, where she met Joe Solo, who was a writer and producer. They both started working together, wrote a collection of songs, and recorded them in Solo’s studio. Gray received an opportunity to sing at jazz cafes in Los Angeles after her demo tape came out. In 1998, she signed a record deal with Epic Records. She started working on her debut album entitled “On How Life Is” in 1999, along with the producer Darryl Swann. The album was released in the summer of that same year. A single from this album entitled “I Try” brought her major success and won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance as well as nominated for “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year.”
Overall, Gray has released ten studio albums so far in her musical career. Some of the top-hit albums include The Id (2001), The Trouble with Being Myself (2003), Big (2007), The Sellout (2010), Covered (2012), Talking Book (2012), The Way (2014), Stripped (2016), and Ruby (2018).
