Lucky Chops Information
Lucky Chops is a New York-based band that was founded in 2006. The group started in Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School. The group was created by sousaphone player Raphael Buyo, saxophonist/clarinetist Daro Behroozi, and trombonist Josh Holcomb. The trio began to busk off street corners along with Subway Stations.
The band members took the Lucky Chops to a professional level while in college. The band's name was suggested during a word-association brainstorming session by the band's original trumpet player, Daniel Ratkowski. The name refers to the fact that all the band instruments are wind (excluding the drums). The early music by Lucky Chops was mainly covers and mash-ups of songs by other artists.
The wide variety of NYC cultures greatly influenced the original works by the Lucky Chops. The group members gained brief internet fame from a YouTube video in 2016, in which they showed their rendition of "Funky Town" along with "I Got You (I Feel Good)." Over the past 14 years, the Lucky Chops has had over 50 musicians play with them, such as Grace Kelly and Sunny Jain.
