Lucinda Williams Information
Lucinda Gayle Williams (January 26, 1953) is an American musician, singer, songwriter from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her music is classified as folk-rock, country-rock, alternative rock, heartland rock, Americana, and country folk. Williams never graduated from high school but, fortunately, was granted admission to the University of Arkansas. She began to write at the age of six and was playing guitar at 12. Her first live performance took place in Mexico City when she was 17 as a duo with her friend Clark Jones, a banjo player.
Williams was playing regularly in Austin and Houston, Texas, by her early 20s. In 1978, she relocated to Jackson, Mississippi, to record her first album entitled Ramblin' on My Mind. The album was later shortened to Ramblin' when it was reissued and was followed by Happy Woman Blues in 1980. A few of her other notable albums include Sweet Old World 1992, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road 1998, World Without Tears 2003, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone 2014, and The Ghosts of Highway 20 2016.
She also released many hit singles such as "Lines Around Your Eyes" 1993, "Get Right with God" 2001, "Just a Little More Faith and Grace" 2016, "Man Without a Soul" 2020, and "You Can't Rule Me" 2020. Her notable guest and compilation appearances include 1993 – Various Artists – "Pancakes" on Born to Choose, and 1994 – Lisa Mednick – "A Different Sky" on Artifacts of Love. Williams has won three Grammy Awards and one Americana Music Honors & Awards along with many nominations.
