Louis-Jean Cormier Information
Louis-Jean Cormier (born May 26, 1980) is a Canadian indie rock singer and songwriter from Sept-Îles, Quebec. He was formerly associated with the band Karkwa. The band went on a hiatus in 2012, which provided Cormier the opportunity to work as a solo artist. So far, he has released three albums and was a judge on the second season of La Voix, a Canadian television singing competition based on The Voice.
During his time in Karkwa, the band's fourth album, Les Chemins de verre, won the 2010 Polaris Music Prize. It was the first French-language work to win the award. Le Treizième étage was a studio album by Cormier that was released in 2012 and was nominated for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. This also won the Juno Award for Francophone Album of the Year in 2013. Another album by him, released in 2015, was entitled Les Grandes artères and a longlisted nominee for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize.
A charity rendition of Cormier's single "Tout le monde en même temps" was recorded in early 2015 by a group of 125 Québécois musicians and media personalities. It was a public relations campaign in an attempt to protect the Société Radio-Canada from funding cuts.
Cormier appeared on the duet "J'aurai cent ans" in 2016, which was the debut single by the famous singer-songwriter Beyries. Cormier also collaborated with Serge Fiori on the Seul ensemble in 2018. It was a theatrical show comprising new rerecordings of Fiori's classic songs and had its theatrical debut in 2019. Quand la nuit tombe is the latest album by him released in 2020, which debuted at 24 in Canada.
