Los Askis Information
Los Askis is a group of Cumbia Andina Mexicana best known for its pioneering work, the Andean Mexican movement. The movement has placed it as one of the first groups of Cumbia Andina Mexicana. The group was established in 1994 to play music from Latin American and folklore. The current members of the band consist of Miguel Hidalgo, Rogelio Sanchez, Juan Montoya, Jose Cortes Ibarra, Jose Saravia, Rodrigo Padilla, Miguel Hernandez Borja, Eliseo Giron, Juan Pablo Curiel, Alan De Jesus Hidalgo, and others.
Los Askis plays at the cultural centers of Mexico City. The group members were known to make fusions with other genres such as nahua, rumba, son, huapango, saya, huayno, and carnavalito. The group’s first-ever official appearance was in the production of a defunct company named Discos AFC on the cassette and CD entitled “A Journey Through Latin American Folklore.”
Later on, Los Askis successfully created the novelty of the sound cumbia that was mixed with South American folklore. The group continued developing successful recordings for AFC with the new style of Cumbia Andina Mexicana that they introduced. Some of the hit songs that they recorded with AFC include “Palomita,” “Canelita,” “Poco a Poco,” “Desde Lejos,” and “I Give You My Heart.”
