Lionel Richie Information
Lionel Richie (June 20, 1949) is an American television personality, record producer, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. After being baptized into the Episcopal Church, Richie thought about studying religion to become a priest. But ultimately, he was not "priest material" and pursued music instead, despite his inability to read or write music. He is an active life member of Alpha Phi Alpha and a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honor society for band members.
In 2022, he was honored with the American Music Awards Icon Award and the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. In addition to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022. After four seasons as a judge on the relaunch, Richie was set to return for a fifth in 2022.
Richie was asked to perform as the main attraction at the Coronation Concert held at Windsor Castle in May 2023 to honor the coronation of Charles III and Camilla. As the Prince's Trust's first Global Ambassador and Global Ambassador Group's first Chairman, Richie is making history at a steady pace.
