Lennie Gallant Information
Lennie Gallant, CM, is an instrumentalist and Canadian singer-songwriter from Prince Edward Island. In honor of his native province's rich musical history, his work fuses folk rock with country. His performances and songs have garnered several accolades. He had a Juno Award nomination in 2007 for his CD When We Get There, and in July 2009, he visited the Shuttle Endeavour.
Canadian astronaut Julie Payette selected the record for the astronaut crew on their sixteen-day journey. Payette gave Gallant his CD during a special ceremony; she carried it 250 times around Earth on the International Space Station. Among his performances during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver was one at BC Place, which he graced with his presence during the medal ceremony. During the biggest Canada Day event outside of Canada's borders, "Canada Day in London" in Trafalgar Square on 1 July 2011, he spoke on behalf of the East Coast of Canada.
South African sailor Kirsten Neuschäfer won the 2022 Golden Globe Race; Lennie Gallant composed and performed the song "On the Minnehaha" for her. For the duration of the race, Neuschäfer's boat was refitted at the Prince Edward Islands (PEI). The music video features islanders involved in renovating Neuschäfer's yacht Minnehaha, notably shipwright Eddie Arsenault. As the race's leading captain, Neuschäfer crossed the finish line in Les Sables D'olonne to the sound of Gallant's song.
