Lehigh Valley Phantoms Information
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are an ice hockey team based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The club is the principal minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers and plays in the American Hockey League (AHL).
From 1996–1997 until 2009, the Phantoms played in Philadelphia under the name the Philadelphia Phantoms. From 2010 to 2013, they were known as the Adirondack Phantoms in Glens Falls, New York. Since 2014, they have been known as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The PPL Center, an indoor arena in downtown Allentown with a capacity of 8,500 and a construction cost of $282 million, opened to the public on September 10, 2014, and is home to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The Adirondack Phantoms, formerly the Philadelphia Phantoms, moved from Glens Falls, New York, to Allentown's PPL Center in February 2012, as confirmed by the league. Due to disputes surrounding the construction of PPL Center, the club could not commence play in Allentown in 2013, delaying the start of the 2014–2015 AHL season.
With an average attendance of 97.9 percent, the PPL Center hosted 38 home games for the Phantoms in 2015–16, 24 of which were sold out, including the last 13 games. At an average of 8,244 spectators per game, the Phantoms were 2nd only to teams playing in arenas with more capacity in the American Hockey League's attendance standings.
