Lee Roy Parnell (December 21, 1956) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and country music and blues artist. He was born in Abilene, Texas, and grew up in Stephenville, Texas. Parnell’s father has performed with Bob Wills, and he gave his first performance at six on Wills’ radio show. During his teenage years, he played drums and guitar in different bands. In 1987, Parnell moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and signed a record deal with the Arista Nashville recording company just two years later.
In 1990, Parnell released his self-titled debut album for Arista Records. The album produced three chart-hitting singles such as “Family Tree,” “Oughta Be a Law,” and “Crocodile Tears.” His 1992 album, Love Without Mercy, brought a breakthrough for his career. Once again, three singles of the album reached the Top Ten. The other single, “What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am,” reached number 2, the album’s title track reached number 8, and “Tender Moment” reached number 8. All those hits also reached Top Ten hits on the RPM charts in Canada.
Parnell’s next album, On the Road, was released in 1993. The album spawned two top-10 hits. The first one was the title track that reached number 6, and the second one was “I’m Holding My Own,” which reached number 3. The album’s final single entitled “The Power of Love” reached 51.
