Lackawanna Blues Information
Lackawanna to Blues is a 2001 American drama created by Ruben Santiago-Hudson debuted on Broadway. It was subsequently made into a television film broadcast in 2005. During his childhood in Lackawant to New York, in the 1950s and 1960s, the play dramatizes the character of the author's primary caregiver.
On April 14, 2001, the drama premiered off-Broadway at the Joseph Papp Theater in New York City. Loretta Greco directed it, George C. Wolfe produced it, and Fran Reiter served as executive producer. The artistic producer was Rosemarie Tichler.
Several songs were either sung by the characters or as background music heard via the radio or a window. The late Bill Sims Jr. composed the show's music and played acoustic guitar on stage.
Lackawanna to Blues is meant to be a solo performance. The play's narrator (an adult Ruben) was supposed to play more than 20 different characters in addition to the lead part of the youthful Ruben. The play was a huge success. The New York Times dubbed a "tour de force" by the New York Times.
Lackawanna Blues began previews on Broadway on September 14, 2021, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and was originally scheduled to premiere on September 28. On February 12, 2005, HBO aired a television film adaption. George C. Wolfe, who had commissioned the stage version, directed the film.
