Kiriki Takemura (January 29, 1993) is a Japanese tarento, model, and singer born in Tokyo, Japan. She is known by her stage name, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She has become a symbol of the kawaii and decora subculture that thrives in Tokyo's Harajuku district. Yasutaka Nakata, one-half of the electronic music group Capsule, is responsible for producing Kyary's songs.
Her songs "Candy Candy" (2012) and "Fashion Monster" (2013) followed the success of 2011's "PONPONPON," which peaked in the top ten on Japan's Oricon music chart. After 2012's Pamyu Pamyu Revolution, 2013's Nanda Collection, 2014's Pika Pika Fantajin, 2018's Japamyu, and 2019's Candy Racer are Kyary's subsequent five studio albums (2021).
Her career as a music artist has done best in Asia, but she has become well-known in the West thanks in part to viral videos posted online. Kyary has been photographed for publications like Dazed & Confused and called a "Fashion Monster" by the media. Her first US album was released in 2013 after she inked a distribution contract with Sire Records. According to Oricon, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has over 2.25 million digital single downloads and has sold over 970,000 physical albums and singles in Japan as of February 2020.
