Kris Allen Information
Kristopher Neil Allen (June 21, 1985) is an American singer, musician, and songwriter. He was born in Jacksonville, Arkansas. After graduating from high school, Allen relocated to Conway, Arkansas, to enroll in the University of Central Arkansas. He majored in commerce and was involved with the Chi Alpha campus ministries there. He engaged in Christian missionary work while at college in countries worldwide, such as Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, South Africa, Spain, and Thailand.
Allen started attempting to make songs after realizing in college that he wanted to play music professionally. In his junior year, he left school to pursue his ambition of being a professional musician after playing his first gig at a tiny venue in downtown Conway. With former classmates and bandmates Michael Holmes (drums) and Chase Erwin, Allen composed and self-produced the album Brand New Shoes in 2007. (bass).
Allen and his brother Daniel, who failed to get a Hollywood break, went to Louisville, Kentucky, for the eighth season of American Idol auditions. Allen garnered a lot of praise for his folk-inspired renditions of contemporary pop tunes throughout the competition. During his performances, he utilized a variety of instruments, including the electric guitar, keyboard, piano, and acoustic guitar. The judges were impressed with his rendition of "To Make You Feel My Love" in the Top 11. Allen became the winner of American Idol in its eighth season.
