Kraftwerk Information
Kraftwerk is a German band that was formed in 1970 in Dusseldorf. Florian Schneider and Ralf Hutter founded the band. They both are considered widely as pioneers and innovators of electronic music.
Florian Schneider and Ralf Hutter met each other while studying at Robert Schumann Hochschule, located in Dusseldorf. The band’s line-up did not remain consistent from 1970-1974. The group released two experimental albums in 1970 entitled Kraftwerk and Kraftwerk 2. They both are considered as their initial releases.
Kraftwerk released its third studio album entitled “Ralf and Florian” in October 1973. After this album, the band began relying more on drum machines and synthesizers. In November 1974, Kraftwerk released its fourth studio album named “Autobahn.” The sound in this album moved away from the band’s first three albums. Both founders of the band kept investing in new and improved technologies to enhance their music. Autobahn received enough commercial success in the United States and peaked at number 5 in the Billboard Top LPs and Tapes.
Kraftwerk began working on their fifth studio album entitled Radio-Activity after gaining success through Autobahn. They also made a supporting tour for the album Radio-Activity in 1976. Right after finishing the tour, the band began to work on their next studio album, “Trans-Europe Express.” The recording took place at the Kling Klang Studio.
Kraftwerk has released many albums, including The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Electric Cafe (1986), and Tour De France Soundtracks (2003). The band has won Lifetime Achievement Award, Hall of Fame, and the Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2014, 2015, and 2018 respectively.
