The Christian non-profit Educational Media Foundation (EMF) owns the K-Love radio network, which plays contemporary Christian music. In 1980, a building permit was issued to the Christian Life Center First Assembly of God of Santa Rosa, California, to construct and operate KCLB, a 91.9 MHz noncommercial radio station. However, a big controversy involving the church's trust fund had sent it into bankruptcy two years previously, so for the time being, the church had to shelve its ambitions.
As the new decade began, the EMF started buying more full-power stations in larger and medium-sized areas. K-Love became the primary sponsor of Michael McDowell's #18 MacDonald Motorsports NASCAR Nationwide Series car in July 2010. Then, in March of 2012, K-Love declared it would be Tony Pedregon's Funny Car's major sponsor for 12 of the season's last 20 races in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.
K-Love Classics, a new classic hits network specializing in contemporary Christian music from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, officially debuted in August 2018 after a successful soft launch as an online radio station. One of the earliest network over-the-air stations, WAIW/Chicago, switched from Air1. The network celebrated 40 years on the air in September 2022.
