Keiko Matsui Information
Keiko Matsui (July 26, 1961), also known as Keiko Doi, is a Japanese composer and keyboardist from Tokyo. She is specialized in new-age and smooth jazz music after being taken to her first piano lesson by her mother following her fifth birthday. According to Japanese tradition, a child introduced to lessons is said to continue in those studies for a long time. This tradition proved to be true for her, and she studied piano throughout school. Matsui developed an interest in jazz during her junior high school and began composing her music.
Keiko Matsui studied at the Yamaha Music Foundation and founded the band Cosmo to record four albums. A Drop of Water (Passport, 1987) was a debut solo album by Keiko Matsui that she recorded with her husband, Kazu Matsui. Some of her other albums are Under Northern Lights (MCA, 1989), Night Waltz (Sin-Drome, 1991), Cherry Blossom (White Cat, 1992), Dream Walk (Countdown, 1996), Hidamari no Ki (2000), The Piano (Narada, 2003), Walls of Akendora (Narada, 2005), and Soul Quest (Shanachie, 2013).
Keiko Matsui also released two live albums and two EPs; Keiko Matsui Live (Countdown, 1999), Live in Tokyo (Sony/Columbia, 2002), and A Gift of Hope (Unity, 1997), A Gift of Life (Narada, 2001). Collection (GRP, 1997) and The Very Best Of Keiko Matsui (Verve, 2004) are the two of her compilation albums. She has worked with other artists, including Just My Tone Mariko Tone (1987), Spread Colors, and Akira Asakura.
