Over the past ten years, Katie Boeck has zigzagged through various musical careers. Katie Boeck formed a band soon after receiving her BA in Theater from UCLA and began performing at open mic evenings on Sunset Boulevard and the West Side of Los Angeles. Her first EP, Speaking of You, was inspired by her bizarre experience as lead vocalist for an all-female Bollywood-Pop ensemble that spent many months traveling across India (think Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love).
Deaf West Theater Company brought Duncan Sheik's musical Spring Awakening to New York City, where she voiced, sang, and played guitar in the show alongside fellow deaf actress Sandra Mae Frank, who portrayed the lead part of Wendla. She was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and went on to perform at the 2016 Tony Awards, which led to appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. The Newsroom, an HBO series that has received widespread praise, used Boeck's trademark acoustic-folk rendition of Ave Maria in its penultimate season.
She has performed in front of crowds in Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York City, where she has become a fixture at Broadway Sings, Elan Artists, and Pitch Meeting, and where she had her Carnegie Hall debut in 2018. Leslie Odom Jr., the winner of a Tony Award, sang a rendition of her song "What Are We Waiting For" at Lincoln Center. While quarantined for COVID-19, Boeck fulfilled a lifelong dream by teaching herself to play the complete song "Blue" by Joni Mitchell. The result is a beautiful ode to one of Boeck's favorite musicians.
