Kaitlin Butts returns to traditional honky tonk with a keening, high voice and a talent for traditional country cliches reminiscent of Miranda Lambert. This talent was displayed on her 2015 debut album, Same Hell, Different Devil, and developed further on her 2022 mini-album What Else Can She Do.
Musical theater, pop, and alternative rock influenced young Kaitlin Butts as she grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In her adolescence, she fondled country music, particularly that of Miranda Lambert. Butts took guitar lessons and studied Lambert's songs, which sparked her creativity and led her to create her songs. After finishing high school at Union in 2011, she enrolled in the University of Central Oklahoma's Academy of Contemporary Music, where she explored both indie rock and country music.
After finishing her associate's degree, Butts began working on her debut album, which she eventually recorded at Mike McClure's Boohatch Studio with the help of McClure as producer. That resulted in February 2015's Same Hell, Different Devil.
